Welcome to Google for Work

Today, Google made a major announcement, relaunching “Google Enterprise” as “Google for Work.”

In his blog announcement, Google’s Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt, wrote: “We never set out to create a traditional ‘enterprise’ business — we wanted to create a new way of doing work. So the time has come for our name to catch up with our ambition.”

Schmidt also pointed out just how much has changed in the ten years since Google first began to bring its consumer technology to businesses. Although it all started with search and Gmail, today’s businesses can “go Google” in any number of ways, be it with Google Apps, Google Maps, Google Cloud Platform, Chrome or Android Devices, you name it.

And Google hasn’t just added new technologies to its portfolio. Google has also continued to innovate its existing solutions. In fact, you need to look no further than the recent addition of Drive for Work for proof that Google is constantly striving to improve what it has to offer.

This eye toward innovation is not only present in these types of regular improvements, but also in how Google views its solutions as a whole. As Schmidt highlights in today’s blog announcement, the lines between work and personal lives are blurring, and Google’s business solutions are evolving to support that transition. A huge part of this blurring line is the need to work from anywhere and support a 24/7 connected economy, and Google’s emphasis on mobility and accessibility go hand-in-hand with those requirements. In the end, it’s not about work-life balance, but rather work-life integration, and Google technologies are enabling that more and more every day.

Google’s “work the way you live” mantra supports this goal even further, and here at Cloud Sherpas we get to see this effort in action all the time. We hear from customers on a regular basis about how transitioning to Google is so easy because so many of their employees already use Google technology (Gmail, Maps, Chromebooks) in their personal lives.

Ultimately, Google’s goal is to make work better and more meaningful, and Google has demonstrated its commitment to constant evolution in order to meet this goal time and time again, as it did today by introducing Google for Work.

Here’s what some of our customers have to say about why they’re choosing Google for their work:

“Google Apps helped us think outside the square and create a unified and integrated communications platform that can be accessed instantly on any device.”
–  Daniel Chiha, Communications Specialist (Operations), Dick Smith

“Google Apps has already improved the way we work, but we’re especially looking forward to what’s to come. As an aggressively growing lifestyle company with an ambitious vision and big goals, we know we’re in good hands with a company like Google that’s always thinking one step (or a mile) ahead.”
– Mike Blake, CIO, Commune Hotels and Resorts

“Google has the infrastructure and Cloud Sherpas has the knowhow, and we’re excited about the opportunities this will bring to our company and our customers.”
– Bevan Hayes, COO, Jibestream
